The Generalist
University 21 wil prepare those who choose ´dual´ education in Civil Engineering for a wide spectrum of activities in the public, industrial and private field.
The intensive, three and a half-year undergraduate programme at University 21 and a selected practice-partner company creates a solid basis for varied professional tasks. Civil engineers with this education are in demand as generalists in the industry, especially as they are already familiar with codes of practice due to their work placement.
Study Aim
The degree course civil engineering at University 21 provides a widely spread basic knowledge with main emphasis on design, construction, realisation and maintenance of buildings of structural and civil engineering, of traffic infrastructure as well as of other structural facilities.
Students of this more application-oriented undergraduate programme gain the necessary "know how" for success in varied occupations, such as developer´s public representatives, or work in the industrial and private field as construction planners or structural engineers. They may also work in supervising bodies, authorising agencies and auditing authorities.
Course Contents
The structure of the course and the allocation of subjects have many parallels to the other degree courses related to construction at University 21. This clearly indicates how closely these degree courses are linked together.
Students of Civil Engineering receive their specialisation by taking a combination of subjects which emphasise the teaching of structural engineering, construction management, subjects relating to design and suject-specific fundamentals. In this way, prospective civil engineers are informed, for example, about soil properties and learn how to calculate shallow foundations and settlements as well as how to determine soil pressures. The exact name of the modules, their detailed subject content and schedule can be found and downloaded under "Students" and "Download for Students".
