Construction and Real Estate Management - Turn Your Hand to Anything!

The maintenance or management of property from apartments to motorways requires widespread knowledge. The ‘dual’ degree course Construction and Real Estate Management at University 21 provides specialised, comprehensive training to prepare graduates for management positions in the real estate industry.

Academic education in Buxtehude has traditionally been characterised by construction and building design. Students of Construction and Real Estate Management work interdisciplinarily together with students on other degree courses which concentrate solely on construction in modules concerning building materials and structural engineering or structural design of the “product”, namely the property.

Project development, project management and facility management are core modules designed to develop students’ competence in managing the lifecycle of real estate - from initial conception to revitalisation concepts. In this context, students are asked to complete three authentic projects, each in a different market sector.

In addition, students are prepared for management responsibilities in the construction and real estate industry through participation in profession-specific business studies modules over the course of four semesters. These modules focus particularly on marketing and business and economic management.

The theory of this discipline also involves working with corporate real estate management lecturers in the areas of risk management and real estate appraisal and on the compilation of a portfolio.

Twice a year students undertake a three-month practice phase. During this time students acquire valuable experience within a real estate enterprise in the metropolis of Hamburg. Through continued mentoring from the lecturers in the intervening three-month study phases at University 21, students can underpin their practical skills with theoretical understanding.
