Specialized In Everyday Work
Today more than two thirds of structural engineering work is concerned with "structural alteration". Renovation, extension and modernisation dominate the working day of engineers and architects. University 21 offers the corresponding degree course.
The architecture-based ´dual´ undergraduate programme Structural Alteration Studies prepares students specifically for everyday architectural work. No designs of dream houses in unknown places are necessary; maintenance of buildings, reconstruction and renovation of existing living spaces are the challenges at hand. The intensive assistance in a
practice-partner company as part of the ´dual´ degree course is a strong basis for prospective architects with a view to entering many diverse, professional occupations.
Study Aim
This degree course is more application-oriented than most undergraduate programmes in architecture. Students gain the necessary "know how" for a successful occupation as a qualified staff members in a firm of architects.
Lower Saxony´s Association of Engineers recognizes the ´Engineer´ status of graduates of this degree course. Nevertheless, in most of Germany´s federal states the successful completion of a postgraduate programme is a prerequisite both for admission to the Association of Architects as well as for self-employment as free-lancer.
Course Contents
The structure of the course and the allocation of subjects have parallels to the other degree courses related to construction at University 21. This clearly indicates how closely these degree courses are linked together.
Students of Structural Alteration Studys receive their specialisation by taking a combination of subjects which, besides mathematical and scientific fundamentals, selectively provides intensive knowledge about construction, construction management and construction design.
The exact name of the modules, their detailed subject content and the schedule can be found and downloaded under "Students" and "Download for Students".
